This role, which drew on his commercial skills and ready grasp of business issues was a consultative role to the management committee of the Co-operative and encompassed all aspects of business management, concentrating in the areas of marketing, economic research and development, accounting, industrial relations and operations management. The Co-operative was involved in the retail, hospitality, construction, agribusiness, tourism, stevedorage and labour sub-contract industries.

Under his guidance and tutelage, the Co-operative experienced its highest ever level of profits, profits which it has not enjoyed since.

In his role, George was often called upon to negotiate, on behalf of the Co-operative Society, with various government departments and to engage in discussions with the various parliamentary sub-committees and Commonwealth Grants Commission teams that visited the islands.

Just prior to leaving the islands, George was requested to investigate the possibility of computerising the stamp issues system for the Cocos Islands Philatelic Bureau, which sold stamps to clients worldwide.
